Mike Matlak was born in Chicago, Illinois, but by his teenage years had made Texas his home. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Legal Studies from the University of Houston Clear Lake, he attended South Texas College of Law Houston. There he earned his Juris Doctorate in 2006 and has been a member of the State Bar since 2007. While in law school, he spent significant time in The Netherlands, interning at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. During this unique opportunity, he assisted defense counsel in the trial of Momcilo Krajisnik, a Bosnian Serb political leader charged with committing crimes against humanity. This experience made it clear to Mike early on that he wanted to pursue a career in criminal law.
Later in law school, Mike joined the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, earning a third-year bar card. This allowed him to operate as a prosecutor while still a student, overseeing a full caseload, including trial cases. In his final year, he led his mock trial team, as team captain, to the championship in the 2006 Garland R. Walker Memorial Intramural Tournament. Following graduation, Mike became a City Prosecutor for College Station, where he continued his career as a trial attorney. When not in court, he dedicated time as a Mock Trial Instructor to high school students as well as a Junior Achievement Instructor to elementary and junior high students.
After moving to The Woodlands, Mike joined the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, where he excelled as both a misdemeanor and felony prosecutor. Since leaving the District Attorney’s Office in 2010, Mike has been dedicated to defending those charged with crimes. His defense practice has covered a wide variety of cases and he has succeeded in routinely getting favorable outcomes for his clients.
Paul Morrison is a founding partner of Matlak and Morrison, PLLC, a criminal defense firm in Conroe, Texas.
Paul was born and raised in Conroe, Texas. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2005. He attended South Texas College of Law in Houston and during that time he was an articles editor on the law review board and graduated cum laude in 2011. He was admitted to the Texas bar and became a licensed attorney in 2011.
Since 2012, he has practiced law in the area of criminal defense in Montgomery County and surrounding counties handling nearly all types of felony and misdemeanor cases. He devotes his entire practice to criminal defense by working hard to defend his clients in court.
When he is not working, he spends time with his wife and three children
